Amen, Jeff. I've been an adict to Leon's blog for more than a year now, and one of the things that amazes me the most of the guy is his way of throwing off great ideas for great would-be applications (like TimeSnapper, for example) as if it was nothing.

Yeah Jeff, your blog rocks for the amount of effort you put into it, and Leon definitely is very funny!

Here’s the deal.

Jeff Atwood over at Coding Horror recently put up a post in which he talked about how much he digs Leon Bambrick. I can relate – I’ve been a fan of Leon for years.

But, in his praise, Jeff says:

What’s the point of this?

Aydika and I have had this discussion on many occasions. Neither one of us can understand why, when someone praises one thing, he will then, almost instinctively, slam something else. I understand that one thing can’t have value unless there’s something to which it is compared, but that doesn’t mean you have to say it. It’s OK to keep some thoughts inside your head.

What’s wrong with appreciating something based on its own merits? Why does it have to be turned into a Thing One vs. Thing Two scenario?

Isn’t it possible to like Leon without trashing me?

It’s this same kind of thinking that breeds zealotry. The “I like Linux, so I guess I’ll have to trash Windows” mindset. It’s what makes slashdot an incubator of stupidity.

Not impressed. I’m especially irritated because I’ve always felt a sort of kinship with Leon. I think I once called him the “funnier, non-American version of me.” I don’t need someone drawing a line between us for absolutely no good reason.

I can say that I love Leon’s writing, and I don’t need to trash Jeff in the process. Here – watch:
